March 2009: Goals Update

by mapgirl on April 2, 2009

2009 Goal #1
Pay down credit card debt by December 31
Hey, I hit 31% in the middle of the month. Pretty cool. April will be rough since the Capitals are going to make the play offs and I have to front the money for those tickets.
2009 Goal #2
Fill the Save-O-Meter to $4K
In March I got a [...]

by mapgirl on March 3, 2009

2009 Goal #1
Pay down credit card debt by December 31
Not much progress at the moment, but it’s falling.
2009 Goal #2
Fill the Save-O-Meter to $4K
Liquidated my Save-O-Meter in February, but I am hoping to replenish it with the bonus I’m getting. The plan is to put $1K in savings and push the rest of the money [...]

Clarification on 2009 Goals

by mapgirl on February 16, 2009

Sistah Ant asked me to clarify if I was going to pay down some of debt in 2009 or all of it. I meant to say ALL of it. That means about $15K remaining. Of course, I’m having a bad February and March trying to make that goal. I just bought plane tickets for me [...]

Setting Goals for 2009

by mapgirl on February 6, 2009

I last wrote about my goals in December, but I hadn’t set them in stone.
This is what I initially thought I would do:
1. Pay down my credit card debt. Target balance for December 2009 is $3000.00.
2. Save 20% of my salary between my 401k, ESPP, HSA.
But that seems too easy. The second goal is a [...]

Thinking About 2009 Goals

by mapgirl on December 18, 2008

Gosh. I hadn’t given much thought to my goals for 2009 till I saw NCN’s blog about his goal planning.
As it is, I really want to make huge strides in my credit card debt. Ostensibly, I started this blog to help me get control of my finances. I seem to have done decently well on [...]

November 2008 Goals Update

by mapgirl on December 3, 2008

Goal
Specific-Pay off transferred credit card balance
Measurable-approximately $11K
Attainable-$800 a month
Realistic-That’s about what I pay every month right now for debt servicing.
Timely-By January 2010
Grade: Neutral
$800+ went to the credit card company, but netted out to ($622.09) because I have a recurring subscription charge that hits every November, plus my hockey ticket payment plan. That’s ok, but I’m [...]

Goal
Specific-Pay off transferred credit card balance
Measurable-approximately $11K
Attainable-$800 a month
Realistic-That’s about what I pay every month right now for debt servicing.
Timely-By January 2010
Grade: Neutral
$800+ went to the credit card company, but I have to admit it does no good to send in money if you keep charging. But I am taking my annual trip to California [...]

Big Credit Card Debt Moves

by mapgirl on October 21, 2008

Alrighty, with this fabulous new credit limit increase on one of my cards, I decided to shop around a bit. There’s a few things I’ve been doing lately and observations I wanted to share.
1. I have a few other credit cards, but I never charge them up. Lately I’ve been spreading things around to get [...]

September 2008 Goals: Trashed

by mapgirl on October 3, 2008

Goal #1
Specific – Contribute to my 401k plan
Done. But I reduced my contributions to 5%.
Grade: Pass
Goal #2
Specific – Reduce my credit card debt
Measurable – By 50% or $9,137 (rounded up to $10K)
Achievable – Monthly payments of $762
Because I committed to a very expensive Christmas present for my mother, I’m abandoning this goal completely and will [...]

August 2008 Goals Update

by mapgirl on September 3, 2008

Goal #1
Specific – Contribute to my 401k plan
Done. But I’m looking at my other goals and wondering if I should cut back on these contributions.
Grade: Pass
Goal #2
Specific – Reduce my credit card debt
Measurable – By 50% or $9,137 (rounded up to $10K)
Achievable – Monthly payments of $762
Miserable failure here, but we’re currently staring at $16,494 [...]
