Rebranding Is Your Frugal Friend

by mapgirl on May 16, 2010

I found Pantene conditioner on sale this weekend at Safeway in DC. Pantene is rebranding its bottles and the supermarket was getting rid of all the old packaged stuff at a really low price. I love it! I got my favorite brand-name conditioner for about $3 a bottle. I resisted buying a ton of it since I’m running out of room in my bathroom for stocking up.

I love it when companies change their packaging but have the same stuff inside the package. You get the same stuff for a really low price. Stores which are anxious to get rid of the old packaging make inventory room by selling it off cheaply.

Anyone else see stuff changing over in the stores?

I also got some Pantene shampoo on clearance for the same reason. Occassionally my grocery store puts items into clearance that they just cannot fit onto the shelves…….
Another grocery store did a big construction project and had bins of clearance items they were trying to make room for the new store fixtures……..it was great!

An insider note for Pantene fans – not all of the Pantene products are just rebranded bottles – in fact, the ones on clearance are the ones that are being replaced by the new hairtype/style split lines. Classic is the same, the ones for specific hair colors are the same, the moisture balance and vitality are the same……everything else is ‘new’. So if you have a favorite type that’s on clearance, you probably want to grab a extra bottle or two – or plan on switching your allegiance!
