NYC Trip Expenses

by mapgirl on September 29, 2009

$43.50 Bus ticket
$10.00 Metro card fill
$8.00 cab ride
$1.25 bus ride in DC
$6.64 snacks on trip
$64.90 Clothes – new dress, cami
$250.36 Boots @ Steve Madden
$20 – Moon cakes for Harvest Moon Festival

Total $404.65

Only $89.39 was spent if you subtract out the clothes.

I ate most of my meals with friends so I didn’t spend any money on food. I don’t quite know how that happened, but it helped that Saturday night dinner was planned. In catching up with friends, I only dined out once, for dim sum and my friends picked up the check. All other meals were at home with friends. (Sunday breakfast, Sunday lunch) I learned a cooking trick or two with my Indian hostess and I’m excited to try them out.

I had not intended to go shopping, but one of my friends is a fashion designer and I can never resist shopping with her. I love shopping in New York City because I pick outfits that are a lot edgier than my daily life. I tried to find a winter coat, but there was very little that was appealing or affordable. (All the coats were too thin or dressy & too expensive.) The one thing I had been looking at were boots from Duo Boots or else dress shoes for work. So we found a pair of boots that were very nice. But not on sale. I resisted getting the 2nd pair for half price because I really didn’t feel like spending any more than necessary.

In deciding to buy full price boots, I realized that the opportunity wouldn’t present itself again. I just don’t go shopping in stores or online. So it was buy them or never get them at all. I don’t regret it. I wore them all day on Sunday and they fit great, held up in the rain and I hope will be wearing them a long time. (I’ve got them on today!)

Quality boots are a worthwhile expense.

It seems like buying boots is the trending topic in the PF blogosphere. I’m an Ugg girl myself, but I have had an eye on some cute “dressy” boots. Especially ones at Steve Madden.

Haha my fiancee has been beggin me for some Uggs. Guess Im going to have to now since everyone is blogging about it! You had better share those indian recipes with a tweep! Not a bad weekend for you, I still have a leftover metro card from 5 months ago!

On the one hand I know that it stinks if you have to pay full price. It really bothers me when I feel like I did not get a great deal. On the other hand this purchase could really be a once in a lifetime opportunity. (I know it sounds like a cliché.) – I own a few blazers, but I still remember the one I saw in Las Vegas at the Pal Zileri store in the Venetian about 10 years ago. The blazer begged me to buy it, but I could not get myself shelling out the full retail price for it. Would you know that I still think about this blazer years later? So, I am glad for you that you got these boots. Wear them in good health!

Do you believe $64.90 Clothes and $250.36 Boots are trip expense or clothing expense?
