Since people were complaining about what listed as the grocery tally for this trip, I figured I might as well write it all out. Everyone was saying they just packed food for their trips from what was at home. However, we didn’t have much to pack up to take with us since we had to go grocery shopping anyway, so we went on a regular shopping trip and I mistakenly reported to you the entire bill because that was easiest. So I’ll be open and write out as much as I can remember buying and taking on the trip. Keep in mind that usually my boyfriend does not eat meat, but rather than fuss, he will eat whatever I make.
The plan was 2 dinners, 2-3 lunches and ~2 breakfasts. Notice that I packed only half of stuff on the trip and certain things came back unopened.
2 16lb bags of ice
1 box Nilla wafers (half taken on trip)
1 can squeezy cheese (great on hot dogs when you forget the ketchup, which we did)
1 tub spreadable cheese (half consumed, half returned home)
1 pkg of nut mix (unopened)
2 kinds of potato chips (one unopened)
1 pkg beef jerky
1 pkg of Nathan’s hot dogs (all taken on trip, half consumed, half returned home)
1 pkg of Hillshire Farms sausages (froze beforehand)
1 pkg hot dog buns
1 pkg of scrapple (froze beforehand. Rapa brand is mealy and nasty. Boyfriend liked it. I did not. We are both from PA so we like the stuff. Yes, it’s not for everyone.)
1 doz eggs (to replace the 10 eggs we were taking)
1 large can of Bush’s Baked Beans
1 bottle of Rosemount Shiraz (which was twice the price of the bottle we forgot at home)
1 6-pack of Shock Top beer (one came back with us)
4 12-packs of Diet Coke (3 on sale at home, took 1 with us from home, bought another)
2 gallons of drinking water (because we ran out of our collapsible)
Bug spray
1 lb beef chuck stewing meat (which was way too much, so we’ll take half next time)
3 small carrots
2 rolls of TP (one unopened, one from home)
1 roll of paper towels
2 cans of dog food (because we forgot the dry stuff)
1 pkg of dog treats (5 of 6 treats returned home)
1/2 loaf of bread from the pantry
4 frozen chicken tenders from the freezer
2 small squashes from the pantry
1 pkg cheddar cheese (from the fridge, ate half on the trip, came back with half)
half a shredded onion
1 russet potato from the pantry
1 sweet potato from the pantry
6-8 yukon gold potatoes
1 box Triscuits (half taken on trip)
1/2 pkg of dried berries
1 stick of butter (froze beforehand. 3 out of 4 total sticks left at home)
Rice cooked at home and ziploc’d
I probably forgot a few things, but that list is fairly comprehensive of what we took. We eat a lot on our trips and I have a fear of running out of snacks I want to eat. I can admit that we take too much food. We easily could have stretched the food out for another day. I botched the eggs for breakfast one day and we gave them to the dog. (She ate VERY WELL on this trip.) So it is nice to have extra food on hand even if it means taking it all the way back to town. (Like the 6 pack of Cokes we had left on Monday, but we drank those up on the way home.)
Also, the gas bill was really high since the Jeep takes premium gas, gets about 11mph and we drove about 300 miles round-trip. We could have taken my car instead, but we would have taken less stuff and been unable to camp deeper into the forest away from other people. Seclusion is the name of the game, or least silence at night away from drunken revelry and music.

That was the list that was $150?
Also, did I read that right that you drank through 48 sodas? I drink five or so cups of coffee most days, just surprised to see all soda and no water.
Hey Dean,
No, we did not pack in 48 sodas. We bought that many, but only took about 24. (The 12pk from home was actually short a few cans.) hm. I should probably change that to say ‘we left 3 at home’.
We packed in 8L of potable water and bought 2gals more.
