I bought two pairs of summer sandals and a skirt that’s dressy enough for work, including shipping, about $55. The skirt is a dark chocolate brown and will go with some of my suit jackets and carry me into the fall with the right shoes and sweaters. I rarely wear skirts to work, but it’s been so hot this summer that a nice skirt is a perfect addition to my wardrobe.
The sandals are something I’ve been shopping for. I don’t really care much for showing off my toes because I used lift and carry heavy servers and monitors back in the day. (Years before flat panels were affordable.) I cringe at the thought of dropping a box on my foot. But this summer at my office has pretty much changed my sentiment and it’s ok for me to wear something more relaxed than closed toe formal shoes.
I got one pair in a chocolate brown to match the skirt and a red pair, but the red pair is too large and I’ll be returning them to a Sears store soon. I am also super excited for two things: They brought back the No-Iron Pinpoint Shirt in Size 4!! and I got coupon for $25 off $100 purchase of regularly priced clothes, i.e. 3 shirts!
I’m looking at getting rid of my Barbour jacket for something in a more girly trenchcoat. I’m not really the misty-moisty-tweedy-horsey type. I’ll leave that to the Queen to pull off with her pheasant hunting weekends at Balmoral.
Next clothing priority is replacing my formal shoes for winter. I can only get away with Gore-tex combat boots when it’s really muckety outside. (That’s not true. I could probably wear them all through the late fall and winter but I’d like something less clunky and more professional.) I’ll also need a new dress winter coat since my old one is too small. (I went from a Size 4 to an 8 in the 9 years since I bought it. I think it’s ok to get rid of it.) I’ll see how long I can get away with my Gore-tex parka before I am embarrassed into buying a dress coat. Again, it is likely that no one at my office will care but I’m sure there will be a time when it’s glaringly obvious I’m underdressed.
I’ll have to look up my clothing spending for this year. I think it’s probably going to be a bit high since I bought some shirts and pants for work. But I don’t think I’ll need anything next year.
