Thanks Everyone!

by mapgirl on August 31, 2009

[This is the weak blog post I originally wrote. I revised it and posted it, but now it's gone. I want to post it back up again because it's a significant blog milestone.]
Sometime earlier this month, I hit 250,000 unique visitors.
Go figure.
You like me! You really like me!

Lost Blog Posts and Not-Lost Contest Entries

by mapgirl on August 31, 2009

Without going into details, let’s just say that I lost all of last week’s posts and blog entries. ALL OF THEM. That totally sucks because I had about 10 things written up which are gone now. Since system maintenance schedules are part of what I do, I’m pretty cheesed off right now with no recourse. [...]

Complaining About The Phone Company

by mapgirl on August 28, 2009

After reading this article at the Consumerist whining about mystery data charges, I got really irritated. Why bother with a Class Action Lawsuit when you can just get everyone to petition/write the FCC to investigate the matter for FREE?
The FCC handles billing disputes between phone companies and between the provider and the consumer.
You can even [...]

Clothing Spending Report

by mapgirl on August 27, 2009

So far, I’ve spent $373.98 for the year. That includes a haircut for $22. Not too bad, but I need a few more things as I mentioned before.
Things I hope to buy soon:
Dress winter coat ($150-200)
Dark formal shoes ($80-100)
No-iron shirts (2 @~$50 each)
That’s about it. I am so picky about shoes that it may take [...]

Overstocks From Lands’ End

by mapgirl on August 26, 2009

I bought two pairs of summer sandals and a skirt that’s dressy enough for work, including shipping, about $55. The skirt is a dark chocolate brown and will go with some of my suit jackets and carry me into the fall with the right shoes and sweaters. I rarely wear skirts to work, but it’s [...]

Shredding Party Saturday Night

by mapgirl on August 26, 2009

I was watching the A&E Hoarders program in utter horror. Meanwhile, I was going through some old papers getting them ready to shred. I had a hefty pile for the shredder and another pile for the trash bin. (The city recycling bins have not yet arrived, and for some reason DC is extremely picky. No [...]

Weekend Spending Report

by mapgirl on August 24, 2009

I had a successful No Spend Day on Saturday. I had spent the morning at home cooking and doing some light cleaning. I spent the late afternoon at a Pampered Chef presentation at a friend’s place. It was nice to catch up with some friends there, but I didn’t buy anything. Nor was there anything [...]

Recognizing You Have A Problem

by mapgirl on August 21, 2009

Do you ever say to yourself, “I have one somewhere. I just have to find it. If I can’t, I’ll buy another one.”
What do you in response to that?
Do you take the time to find it?
Do you go ahead and buy another one?
Do you ever stop to ask yourself, “Why can’t I find this?”
I’ve been [...]

Answering Reader Question About the Rental

by mapgirl on August 20, 2009

Boston Gal asks:
Do you have a fixed term lease on your new rental? Is it for 18 months? If not, you may want to see if your landlord will lock you in for that time period now, before you complete the rental transformation.
Actually, we are in a 12-month lease and I doubt the landlord [...]

Not a Cheap Dinner at Home

by mapgirl on August 20, 2009

On Sunday night I made a pork tenderloin with a wine/fruit reduction sauce, with powder biscuits, purple potatoes in parsley butter, and steamed green beans. I also made an extra corn on the cob for boyfriend. Dinner was a big hit, accompanied by a $3.99 bottle of 2003 Trinity Oaks Zinfandel.
My first ‘mistake’ was buying [...]
