Friday night I have no idea what I ate for dinner. I think I ate a slice of pizza that my boyfriend ordered from the new pizza place near his house. We relaxed at home because I was kind of wound up.
Saturday, my boyfriend took me to a car show so we could source some parts for his new(ish) car. Mopar was in short supply at the Carlisle Auto Show. It was mostly Chevy small and big block engines. But the cars were beautiful and we ate one of the best sausages we’ve ever had at a fairground. Boyfriend spent all kinds of money on the trip, like tickets to the show, food for us, etc. For dinner his parents took us someplace nice and I ended up with the veal marsala with a salad. They picked up the check.
The main thing was shopping at this kooky place called Ollie’s Outlet. It’s a Big Lots for PA, MD, DE, VA, but I’d never heard of it because they didn’t have them in Philly when I was growing up. Ollie’s has stuff for insanely cheap. We picked up a new dog bed, a 5×8 rug for boyfriend’s living room, some microfiber rags for car washing, a telescoping mop for washing the roof of a car (or windows on a house), some bolts we needed for the car and a small Paula Deen cast iron covered pot. I had been looking at Le Creuset before, but for $30 bucks, I’ll give this one a try and see if I like cast iron cooking before I go whole hog on a red one for $300. (The nearest one to DC is in Jessup, but Baltimore has a bunch.)
Boyfriend picked up the tab at Ollie’s and I filled his gas tank on the trip home. I ended up with the better deal because the gas cost less than $25. Toss in a lottery ticket, a diet coke and a bag of chips for another $5. It was a fruitful trip for me. The sunburn however was free.
Sunday, we didn’t do a whole lot except chores around the house. Closures of I-395 through DC meant no trips outside DC to my apartment. I didn’t want to be stuck in traffic so we spent the day doing small things in town. A trip to Home Depot for some painting supplies yielded us tinted primer, a garden hose, grass seed, etc. I spent about $35. But the real kicker was the tinted primer. We were looking for grey interior primer, but they didn’t have any on the shelf. The paint guy told us he could tint the primer any color we wanted. Did we have the color selected already?
Sure enough, I’d be staring at paint chips all week, so I knew off the top of my head which color range I wanted. If we are lucky, that tinted primer will be enough to coat the walls of boyfriend’s spare bedroom and we won’t actually have to get any interior flat later. Whee!
Later in the evening we went for dinner at La Loma in Capitol Hill. It’s kind of our standby Mexican place for outdoor dining as long as it’s not crowded. Two entrees, an appetizer, and a half-pitcher of margaritas came out to $68, including the tip. It was really pricey this time because I went for an expensive entree. (Camarones Tampico, I highly recommend it.)
