Different Approaches to Giving Money

by mapgirl on April 1, 2009

NYTimes has a great article on giving money to those in need. But it’s missing one thing. They don’t mention Modest Needs, the charity I gave money to last year. I think they are a great way to give money anonymously to people with a demonstrated need.

There are some great suggestions there though. Websites, through religious congregations, delicately approaching friends, etc. There are many alternatives to offer a hand to those in need.

Giving is good, but as the article says, it’s a delicate art. I’ve loaned friends money and gotten burned later, i.e. yelled at for being a ‘bad friend’. But whatever, the mitzvah was done. (lit ‘commandment’ but now it means ‘good deed’ in Yiddish.) If I was looking for gratitude, I would have gotten a dog.

I agree with you….Modest Needs is a great
organization. I make donations throughout
the year to them and feel like it really makes difference to people who would otherwise fall through the cracks.

Able to make donation to others is a good thing, atlease, you know your finacial status are better than other.
BTW, How the organization spend the money they received form donation, how big the portion goes to the needs and what is the portion goes to their salary? Anyone?
