Meatless Dining This Week

by mapgirl on April 30, 2009

I usually go out for lunch with my co-workers just to step away from my desk. (I’m the kind of person who never leaves my desk when I’m working. Other people have to tell me to eat.)
On Monday I tried out a new restaurant with my teammates. It was a family diner with Greek flair. [...]

Weekend Spending Report

by mapgirl on April 29, 2009

Friday night I have no idea what I ate for dinner. I think I ate a slice of pizza that my boyfriend ordered from the new pizza place near his house. We relaxed at home because I was kind of wound up.
Saturday, my boyfriend took me to a car show so we could source some [...]

Hockey Update

by mapgirl on April 29, 2009

The Washington Capitals have made it out of Round 1 for the first time in about 10 years. I should know because the season ticket fans all around me last night were raving about it. That is some kind of dedication, sticking with a team that just 4 years ago had only 28 wins in [...]

Dear GM

by mapgirl on April 28, 2009

I really wish you weren’t getting rid of Pontiac. You see, I was dreaming about cars the other day, and I am sold on getting a Pontiac Solstice as my next car.
This is a big deal because I’m driving a Nissan right now and for the longest time, my top three cars were the Mazda [...]

Don’t Read This Blog

by mapgirl on April 27, 2009

Seriously. I have no idea what to do with my money. I didn’t meet my goals last year. I’m falling on my face with this year’s goals. Since starting this blog I have only paid down about $5K in credit card debt (over 2.5 years).
My boyfriend has asked me to move in. I’m pretty excited [...]

Capitals vs Springtime

by mapgirl on April 24, 2009

Now that the weather is finally warming up in DC, I’d kind of like to do some stuff outdoors rather than be cooped up in the Phone Booth. Boyfriend made a confession that he’d like to skip Round 1, Game 5 and do something tonight. I agreed. We can watch the game on tape. I [...]

Heidi’s Pies

by mapgirl on April 23, 2009

I’ve been meaning to rave about Heidi’s Pies for a while. Boyfriend and I ate there for brunch and picked up some pies for dinner, boysenberry, chocolate cream and apple. All of them were amazing. Freshly baked with interesting specials like strawberry and German chocolate.
It’s on El Camino Real north of the Hillsdale Caltrain station. [...]

RIP Mr. Kellerman

by mapgirl on April 22, 2009

Normally, I probably wouldn’t post this, except it’s local news of national interest and it comes as news on the heels of another suicide on the periphery of my life and another debt-related suicide in suburban DC.
If you haven’t heard, the acting CFO of Freddie Mac was discovered dead. Preliminary reports are of suicide.
The Washington [...]

I found it through SFGate.
It’s just allocations of Neighborhood Stabilization Program Grants by HUD, but you can see the specific amounts going to counties in your state, as well as state-wide amounts. I find the local foreclosure rates quite interesting.
I think people who are encouraging squatters to live in foreclosed homes could probably access this [...]
