For the most part, boyfriend and I split our costs fairly evenly ($730 for me, $620 for him). We don’t keep track down to the dime, nickel or penny. It’s what it is and not wildly uneven. (I don’t think $110 is uneven considering what he’s about to spend on my birthday dinner tomorrow night. It all evens out.)

Because we were taking this trip for my dad’s 70th birthday, we only spent two nights in a hotel and the rest of the time with my family. There was a really fancy dinner my sibling picked up, for which my aunt gave us money. But as I was joking with my uncle, the dinner for 9 adults and 2 kids was less than the big screen TV we got for my dad’s 60th birthday. We used the money from our aunt to buy dim sum lunch the next day.

Because I’m Asian, gifts for family are de rigueur. Boyfriend was meeting my west coast family for the first time so we picked up some awesome pies for dinner, and another pie and bottle of wine for my cousin and her husband because they were letting us stay with them for free. My family also has memberships to museums that allowed us free or discounted admission, so we saved a lot of money that way. Boyfriend and I are spoiled by the Smithsonian being free in DC for us all the time.

Food. Glorious food. Boyfriend had stuff to do with his friends and I had stuff to do with mine, so I’ve only listed my meals here. Boyfriend had his own meal costs but I didn’t see what he spent. There was one mysterious bar tab on Tuesday night as well. We ate pretty well on this trip. There was a culinary pleasure-to-value disconnect some places, but I’ll write about them later. Most of the time the food was very good.

At any rate, that’s where I was early this week, ignoring the blog and having a wonderful time.
