Presidents’ Day Cleanup!

by mapgirl on February 17, 2009

On my 2009 action plan, I actually cleaned some stuff up at my apartment. I didn’t realize how much my shredder was getting filled. I dumped one bag of trash, one bag of shredded papers and one bag of recycling. heh heh. I even overheated my crazy huge shredder so I have to go back later this week and finish.

I also took a bag of clothes to Goodwill from my apartment, 2 from my boyfriend’s house, and 1 from a friend’s place. (I was at her house to pick up a key for cat-sitting when I mentioned Goodwill. I took some stuff for her too.)

I found a DVD I borrowed from a friend that I can return, and packed up a box and 2 bags of freebies and stuff to gift/give away to friends of mine.

The FlyLady talks about the “27 Fling Boogie”. It’s where you chuck away 27 things into a large trashbag and once you get rolling, you can’t stop and fill up the entire bag. It’s easy once you get started. I find a headset is key so you can yak it up with your girlfriends and still wander all over while you clean.

I will admit though, it is still very, very hard to just throw away my old clothes or repurpose them at Goodwill. I really want to return them into service as different items, like quilts or rugs, but crafting them is kind of inconvenient while I’m shuttling between residences.

You’re right about the headset. It’s so much easier to clean while chatting with someone on the phone. It’s not like they’re directly telling me to get on with it, but the act of talking fuels the act of cleaning. Productive! Now I’ve just got to get my butt over to Goodwill.
