Wintry No Spend Day

by mapgirl on January 28, 2009

I stayed home yesterday. I worked from the couch. It’s easy to spend nothing when the weather is snowy. I took the opportunity to make a variation on my sausage lentil recipe. This time was from black French lentils I bought ages ago and left in boyfriend’s pantry. (Ok I should edit the first sentence to say, ‘I stayed at boyfriend’s home yesterday.’ Whatever. I’m house and pet-sitting for him again.)

This time I used some leftover onion up, added some garlic cloves and tossed in some whole fennel seeds. That was on top of 2 hot Italian sausage links that I cut open from the casings, and a chicken boullion cube with a few ounces of lentils. I really don’t measure anything anymore.

I actually ate a 3rd sausage link with some polenta for lunch. I have to say, it’s really easy to drop a tablespoon of stinky cheese into hot polenta, melt it and add zesty flavor very quickly.

I ate a bowl or two of the lentils with a leftover croissant. And hot tea all day long.

Yay no spend days! I had a bunch this week so that I wouldn’t bankrupt my spending account between Monday and payday tomorrow. I’ve been eating leftovers, taking lunch, and staying home.
