I had a conversation this morning with a co-worker from around Scranton. He said to me that if only the Eagles could win now that the city’s curse has been broken. I said, that would be cool, but very sad. The only person I know with a PSL for the Eagles was my friend, JB, who was killed earlier this year. It would be ironic if they won now in the first season after his death.
All the same, I’m still very happy today. I’ll never care for the Nationals. I was more of an Orioles fan having gone to games at Camden Yards in college and watching Cal Ripken’s penultimate game. (I still have his bobblehead doll.) But deep, deep, down, I will always like the Phillies. I remember Pete Rose, Mike Schmidt, Tug McGraw and the last time they won. Today is a great day!

Glad to hear it. I was eight during the last championship so my memories are of my mom keeping me up past my bedtime to see the final outs (frankly, I just remember being really tired and wanting to go to bed). This time around, I gladly stayed up and watched every inning.
Sadly, I think the curse will still effect the Eagles. They are at a whole other level of sports here in Philly and I think the intense pressure and scrutiny they face every year is too much for any team to win. I hope I’m wrong.
GO PHILLIES!!!
If the Eagles tank, it’s not because of the curse, it’s because of the Eagles. The Philadelphia Soul, though more minor, also won their league’s championship. Billy Penn is on top of the Comcast Center, and everything’s been alright since – THE CURSE IS BROKEN.
I’m too young to remember the ‘80 win, but I remember ‘93 and the heartbreak that followed. This is great for any Philadelphian’s psyche.
Go PHILS! I’m going to check in on the parade during lunch tomorrow.
