From The Archives: August

by mapgirl on August 12, 2008

The ever popular Caveat Lector post. Just as true now as it was a year ago. Beware of hucksters, shysters and anyone else who knows what to do with your money and your credit score. By far, this is the most important post I’ve ever written here.
And a related post that still has some good [...]

Restaurant Review: Sticky Rice

by mapgirl on August 8, 2008

Sticky Rice is a new H Street restaurant here in DC. It has its origins in Richmond, VA at the original location. It seems to have a huge following with kids who went to college around Richmond.
Sticky Rice is the second closest sushi shop near boyfriend’s house and down the street from Joe Englert’s hip [...]

Market Thinking: Unwarranted Optimism

by mapgirl on August 7, 2008

I keep telling myself that what goes down must go up….right?! -SavingDiva
Sadly, no. The market doesn’t have to do anything. You’re applying the law of gravity to something dependent on the rationality or the irrationality of human beings. Physics and Investing only have high end mathematics in common. Even so, investing can be completely subverted [...]

July 2008 Net Worth Update

by mapgirl on August 5, 2008

In a phrase: Unexpectedly crappy.
I am just shocked at how much my retirement accounts shrunk in July, despite a regular contribution to my 401k account. It’s a disaster and a half! I lost almost 4%, and that’s offset by the contribution. Oh well. I know most of it is a dip I took on BRKB. [...]
