Holiday Weekend Spending Report

Seriously, this isn’t that interesting, but here goes:

Wednesday before Thanksgiving:
Bought gas and tolls on the way home. Meals were eaten at home.

Thanksgiving:
No last minute grocery trips. My mom had it all covered.

Black Friday:
I bought a cup of tea while meeting my oldest friend. It’s kind of a holiday tradition for us now to meet on Black Friday and chit chat or catch a movie. (She loves films.) I also spent tolls on the way back to DC. I love the late night drive on I-95. I got home rather quickly. Contemplated going out, but decided it was best to stay home and sleep. (~$3)

Saturday:
I got up early to get my car inspected and the oil changed. I bought some gas at $3.01 near my house. (~$25)

I had lunch with a friend (~$16) and then did some window shopping at Eastern Market. The deal was that I would buy lunch and my friend would buy dinner. We had plans to meet some other friends, and so I made a joke about how I was going to call them and make sure they would pick some place expensive. Turns out they did. But we all agreed that Nicaro in Silver Spring is amazing and we should eat there again before the menu changes. The 2005 or 2006 St. Francis Old Vines Zinfandel was spectacular even if it was a ridiculous $11 a glass. Try the chocolate bread pudding. Delicious! ($20-$30 entrees, have no idea what the final check was. Deal’s a deal.)

Then we dashed off to a house party in Baltimore to see Rob from Epistolary.org. Always fun.

Toss in a metro trip around town because my friend wanted to go to Macy’s and buy new clothes under the watchful eye of Frumperella. (~$3) I gladly kept my paws of the kitchen items I saw. No need for cute little enameled iron au gratin pans with lids. I have my French ramekins, which I will use Julia Child-style and put aluminum foil on top.

Sunday:
Leftovers all day. Bought my holiday flight to California. I went to the movies BOGO for $12 and my friend bought dinner for about $15. I was happy about the BOGO coupon because it was from an Entertainment book I bought from a co-worker for his daughter’s school. I hate office solitications, except yummy Girl Scout cookies, but so far, I have saved $12 with the book and if I go to 1 more movie, I will have almost paid for the book.

So I bought mostly gas, tolls, food and airline tickets this weekend.

Sounds more interesting than mine. On the plus side, I had fewer meals out and more free food with various family members. But we also spent more on tolls.

Hah, I read your first item as “Bought gas and TROLLS on the way home.” and thought what do you mean, buying trolls is interesting!

    Hey Mapgirl:

I love your low-key Black Friday.
I watched the Hannah Montana marathon with my nine-year-old daughter at my parents’ house.

We don’t have cable at our house, so that was a real treat.
