Dean - OMG. Don't even talk to me about an alarm clock. I still have my Sony Dreamcube from high school. The white plastic is now piss yellow. But it still gets NPR reliably and the snooze bar is just the right size.

Right on with the multi-monitor set up. I have it at work and love, love, love it.

My digicam is seven years old, and has taken less than 200 pictures. My cellphone now fills the role, as it's a better camera with more memory that's smaller.

I have a Zojirushi rice cooker. I love it, and use it at least weekly. I purchased it to replace two (broken) Black & Deckers, as the American rice cookers all have glass lids, that I eventually drop and shatter.

I had a PDA. Useless to me.

I had a fancy cellphone. Useless to me.

I had a 3G iPod. This was GOLD, as I had a car headunit that let me keep the iPod *inside* the dash as a 20 gig hard drive of music. It died in about it's third year, and I don't think it was worth replacing, unfortunately.

My brother bought me a mustache/beard trimmer for Christmas. It's still in it's plastic wrap.

Unless you play video games or edit digital video, more than a bottom-end computer is always overkill. My laptop is four years old, my desktop is about six years old, and they both suffice just fine, even including the fact I make my living as a coder. I'd much rather have a multi-monitor setup than a faster CPU.

Essentially, I hate trinkets. I hate gadgets. None of them are worth the loot, save a simple cellphone, an aging computer, and a great alarm clock.

I got a refurbished PDA right before going to college. I sometimes use it to read free books (classics w/no copyright) on the metro, so it's more useful than it was when I didn't use it at all in college.

Oh lord, every single time we need new phones, either the family or BoyDucky and I moan and groan over how impossible it is to find a simply basic phone with a good phone book and battery life. That's all we need!

I have a digital camera that rarely gets used. In fact, I haven't even worked out how to download the pictures onto my laptop. Fortunately it was a gift, but since I'm not a picture person it is distinctly underutilised.

My phone has many features that I don't need, but it was free, has normal phone features that I do need (phone / text message / phone book) plus I actually play games on it when I'm bored on the train.

I must have a slew of gadget that I only used for a couple of months and then they gathered dust. However, that Diamond Rio got a ton of use, especially at the gym where CDs were bulk and tend to skip when you are on a treadmill.
