I think it is possible to get "addicted" to lip balm in a sense, because if you constantly put oils and moisturizers on your lips, your lips stop producing as much natural lubricant. I am another Burt's devotee. I have gone through various stages of lip balm use, but have been using Burt's primarily for many years. I never leave the house without it, and also keep it by the bed and in my desk drawer and in the car, in case I have a brain lapse and actually do accidentally leave the house without it. I also like Nanak's lip smoothie (almond flavor). I also have some hemp stuff that is okay--Happy Hempsters, maybe? My 3-yr-old loves to get ahold of my Burt's. He calls it "wipstick" or "wip stuff". I have to keep it tucked under my mattress, because if it's out on the bedside table I'm liable to find it later with tooth marks in it and the cap nowhere to be found. There is no ingredient anyone is legally going to put in lip balm that would cause addiction and I don't believe the companies are adding ingredients that will damage your lips just enough to get you to use more tubes. Personally, I don't go anywhere without lip balm. People reuse lip balm so much because they like the way their lips feel when they're slick and soft and notice sooner when they're getting dry and cracked. Everytime I try to use it my lips swell up and get these little bumps that last for about 4 days. The only thing I have been able to use for years is Pucker Ups lip balm which I buy in bulk from Sally's. I use Carmex (I don't have cold sores, just insanely dry skin) and it's phenomenal. Nothing works better once your lips are crazily damaged. Period. Am I addicted? No. I joke that I'm addicted to lip balm (the act of putting stuff on mylips) and one year my friend gave me (no joke) 10 tubes of Chapstick for my birthday. But I'm not particularly picky as to what brand I'm using (not entirely true, some I like more than others). I can go weeks (and months) without using Carmex or anything else.
