Taking my own advice

I was nearly out of gas today. I went out to Prince Georges County, MD last night, but decided due to time restrictions, not to stop for gas. Gas in my neighborhood in VA was $2.25-$2.29, but I thought I could get it for $2.19 in PG County. I definitely saw that price, but was in a rush to get to my destination and too tired when I left to make the stop.

That’s ok. I still got gas today for $2.25. That’s probably the first time in nearly a year that I’ve purchased gas for this cheap in my state. (Usually I find good prices in Delaware on the way to my parents’ house in Philly). I passed my two regular stations and saw $2.27 and $2.29. Feh. That’s an ok price, but I can find that in a lot of places. There’s a third station on the *left* side of the road, but that one usually costs about 7-10 cents more. I’ve only ever bought gas there once and I can’t even remember why since they are almost always more expensive. But this morning, the price was $2.25!

Now leaving home and going away for 10 hours is a gamble in gas pricing. Prices change throughout the day when their tanker truck delivers more fuel. However, today, I willing to take that chance since I never shop that station ever. On the way home, my fuel light went on. Since it’s only about 18 miles, I knew I could make it home and take the chance on getting gas for $2.25. I was really happy to get that price tonight. Of course, the pump didn’t print me a receipt. The register wouldn’t print one either. So the cashier hands me some receipt tape so I can write stuff down. While waiting, I notice that they do repair work and I ask him about alignment and stuff. He hands me a card and I’ll be checking with them in the morning for some work I need done. Yay! A good price and potentially a new repair shop!

344.8 miles/12.517 gallons = 27.5 mpg
